Cosmic Radiation on Flights
Estimate the radiation dose from air travel by flight hours and route type and compare it with chest X-rays and background radiation, free online.
About this calculator
At cruising altitude, cosmic radiation is much higher than on the ground — typically 3–6 µSv per flight hour, more on polar routes and at high latitudes. Rates here are rough averages (ICRP/NCRP data); actual values vary with solar activity.
